Each month of pregnancy brings new experiences both for mother and baby. Here is a month-by-month guide of what to expect from each stage of your journey.
1st Month
During this first month conception will occur and your baby arrives. You will stop ovulating as your body prepares to bring life.
2nd Month
The second month is a crucial month in the development of your baby. During the early part of the month your baby’s heart will start beating, and by the end of the month your baby’s upper and lower limb buds will also appear.
For the mother, the pregnancy symptoms really kick in, and you may find yourself feeling sick, unable to sleep and sweating. Mood swings are also common during this month.
3rd Month
During the third month of your pregnancy, your baby’s bones begin to harden and their external ears have grown. The baby is already starting to move spontaneously, even though you won’t be able to feel it yet.
The morning sickness symptoms are the worst in the third month, but start to get better after the end of the first trimester.
4th Month
By the fourth month of pregnancy all of your baby’s teeth have formed and even a scalp pattern forms. The baby is now starting to make its own bile and insulin.
This month you will be able to hear your baby’s heartbeat during your scans, which is one of the exciting milestones in your pregnancy.
5th Month
This is the month where you will be able to see the gender of your baby through an ultrasound. Your baby’s movements may be more apparent, and may be caused by loud startling noises, although you probably won’t be able to feel it yet.
The fifth month is considered the best part of pregnancy for the mother. The early morning symptoms have usually passed, and you’re still mobile enough while the baby is small.
6th Month
By this month your baby is moving and practicing breathing for when he or she is born.
You will start to experience practice contractions in your sixth month of pregnancy. These are much milder than those you’ll experience when you do into labor, but they will not bother your baby at all.
7th Month
By the seventh month of pregnancy your baby will start to start kicking and moving as it turns around.
This month is the ideal time for mothers to start childbirth classes. You should research the best classes that suit you, and if you can try to find a close friend to attend with you to give you moral support.
8th Month
In this month your baby will gain about 2 pounds of weight, which is composed mostly fat and muscle tissue.
You will probably feel like you want the baby to be born already, but there are still eight weeks, which can feel like a long time. It’s important to stay active and get out to keep yourself physically and emotionally better.
9th Month
Your baby can arrive any time between 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your due date. This is the most exciting time when you will get to meet your new son or daughter, so enjoy it.
